Anthurium Forgetii Caring Tips

1.       Soil

A strictly defined composition of the soil, which is made up of humus, unsifted leafy soil, peat, and coarse sand in a ratio of 2: 1: 1: 0.5, is recommended.

It would also be good to add elements of coarse fraction, which is a piece of broken brick, moss, cones, and charcoal. This is to occupy about 10-15% of the total soil volume for better moisture and air passage.

The acid reaction of the soil should be slightly acidic. If, for some reason, it is difficult to prepare the soil for anthurium forgetii, you can use specially prepared soil for plants of the aroid family.

2.       Lighting

A half-shade of anthurium forgetii allowed. Its distinguishing feature is that it can grow even on the northern window, but you will not wait for flowering from it.

The best place will be the western or eastern side of the room. The main thing is that it does not fall under the influence of directly directed light, for it is detrimental to the flower.

And for it to bloom in winter, it will need to be slightly highlighted.

3.       Temperature

The plant needs a stable temperature without sharp fluctuations corresponding to its natural habitat. That means it needs to be 20-25 degrees Celsius.

It should not fall below +16 Celsius; however, anthurium forgetii should be placed away from heating appliances. With the correct setting of the temperature regime, drafts are categorically excluded for detrimental to this plant.

4.       Humidity

Anthurium forgetii need the presence of high humidity. It can be created by regularly washing the leaves in a bath, watering them from above on both sides, and washing off the dust.

When wiping with a damp sponge, care must ensure that water does not fall on the inflorescences. If this happens, they will be covered with spots and quickly fall off. After such bathing drops from the leaves, they should always be collected with a napkin.

Spray the air near the plant but do this carefully so that the drops from the sprayer do not fall on the flowers and leaves. An effective measure would be to place wet sphagnum moss in a flowerpot with anthurium forgetii closer to its stems.

This will give moisture to the adventitious roots and stimulate their growth. Experts also recommend placing the plant pot in a tray with wet moss or wet expanded clay or sand.

5.       Watering

Watering should be carried out with soft and lukewarm water, previously settled in any clean container. This is once every three to four days in warm weather and once a week in winter.

The top layer of soil can determine the need for watering. If it is dry, then you can water it. In this process, it is important to maintain a balance.

Neither overdrying of the earth nor excess moisture should be allowed. After the procedure, it is necessary to drain excess water from the tray.

However, the soil must remain moist. It is strictly forbidden to water the plant with cold water or water with lime; otherwise, the leaves will turn yellow after such care.

6.       Fertilizing

When the growth and flowering of anthurium forgetii fall in spring and summer, it must be fed with a mineral solution and organic fertilizer twice a month.

It will also be useful to carry out foliar feeding along with watering. You can use a granular slow-acting fertilizer, but when transplanting, you need to use it.

Sometimes, a weak liquid fertilizer can be used for indoor plants with a frequency of once a month. But to correctly determine the desired fertilizer and its dosage, it is worth seeking the advice of a specialist.

7.       Transplanting

Regular transplanting is required. Young plants under five years old should be replanted every year and adults once every two years. A new earth mixture should be added each time.

For transplantation, shallow and wide flowerpots with good drainage are used. The width of the pot contributes to the formation of kids, and its height will stimulate flowering.

When transplanting anthurium forgetii, do not forget to inspect the roots. Sick or damaged ones should be cut off, and the cuts should be treated with crushed coal.

Propagation of Anthurium Forgetii

a)       Propagation by seeds

The seeds should be sown in fertile sandy soil. The tray with the seeds should be covered with cling film, periodically removing it to gain access to oxygen. After 20-25 days, the seeds will sprout, and the seedlings can be placed in separate pots.

b)      Vegetative propagation

Anthurium forgetii can be propagated through vegetative or cuttings. A young shoot should be separated from the plant and placed in a container with water, stored in a warm and well-lit place. After two or three weeks, the cutting will take root and be planted in the ground.

c)       Dividing the bush

The rhizome can be divided in the transplant procedure, and thus, a new plant can be obtained.

d)      Branch of lateral offspring

The shoots of anthurium forgetii can be immediately planted in the soil without additional manipulations.

Diseases and Pests

Thickened roots and root neck are quite sensitive to decay. This can be avoided by providing good drainage and constant but not excessive watering. Anthurium forgetii is susceptible to fungal infections, resulting from spots appearing on the leaves and bedspreads.

Fight fungal infections with fungicides constantly keep the plant in an optimal environment. Also, it is attacked by pests like aphids, mites, nematodes, and thrips.

These pests can be removed with the help of appropriate chemicals and removing cotton swabs dipped in alcohol. Nematodes are difficult to control because they damage the roots and slow down the plant’s growth.
