Chollipo Euonymus – 8 Things To Keep In Mind For Better Caring!

Sharing is caring!

Chollipo Euonymus is a thick multi-stemmed evergreen shrub that grows and spreads upright. It has a fine texture and less refined foliage.

Chollipo Euonymus can grow to about 12 feet tall in its maturity and spread to about 6 feet. This plant tends to fill the ground, so it does not necessarily need facer plants in front.

It grows very fast, and under perfect conditions, it can live for more than 40 years. It has gorgeous dark green foliage edged in creamy white and greyish-green hints. Likewise, it has glossy oval leaves, which are highly attractive and continue dark green during winter.

Chollipo Euonymus Care Tips

1.       Soil

Chollipo Euonymus does not impose special requirements on the composition of the earthen mixture. Any purchased universal soil mixture for indoor plants is suitable for growing.

But it is necessary to add any baking powder (for example, vermiculite) to it to increase air and water permeability. You can prepare the earth mixture with your own hands; you need to mix leaf, sod, and humus soil with sand.

2.       Lighting

Throughout the year, Chollipo Euonymus needs a large amount of light. However, it is quite possible to grow it on a northern windowsill. Keep in mind that some species will grow worse there, while others will grow better.

The plant needs a large amount of sunlight, and it will be better if the direct rays of the sun fall on its foliage in the evening or morning. When growing variegated forms, it is worth choosing the most illuminated place since they can lose their spectacular color due to poor lighting.

3.       Watering

Abundant watering can be done from spring to autumn. The soil at the Chollipo Euonymus should always be slightly moist in the depths of the roots, but make sure it dries out in the upper third of the pot by the next watering.

In winter, watering is moderate or limited depending on the temperature, and the soil should dry out almost completely.

4.       Temperature

Normal room temperature in summer, although euonymus prefers annual daytime temperatures of 12-20 °C. At night, it can be 4-12 °C is required. With a warmer content in winter, the plant continues to grow, but at the same time, it stretches out if there is little light.

At the same time sheds the lower leaves if the stems are exposed, and the decorative appeal is lost. It is advisable to grow the Chollipo Euonymus in partial shade in the garden or on the balcony in summer.

5.       Air humidity

Chollipo Euonymus can grow normally at any level of air humidity, but on hot days it is still recommended to moisten it with a spray bottle. Regular wetting of the foliage will reduce the chances that harmful insects will settle on the plant.

To prevent the white coating formation on the surface of the leaf plates, the water to moisten the bush is taken pre-boiled or passed through a filter.

In the summer months, a warm shower will be helpful in the shrub. However, during the procedure, it is recommended to cover the surface of the substrate in the container with a film.

6.       Fertilizer

Chollipo Euonymus should be fed only during the spring-summer period, and this is done regularly in 30 days. Make sure to water it before feeding. For this procedure, you can use a complex mineral fertilizer for decorative leafy plants in the concentration indicated by the manufacturer.

7.       Top dressing

If Chollipo Euonymus was initially planted in fertile soil, it does not need constant top dressing. It is enough to feed it once a month in spring and summer with complex mineral fertilizer. You can use manure infusion in a ratio of 1:10.

8.       Transplant

When transplanting Chollipo Euonymus, a soil mixture is prepared, consisting of soddy and leafy soil, humus, sand in a ratio. The plant roots are prone to root rot, so a drainage layer of broken brick or expanded clay must be placed on the bottom of the pot.

Young plants are transplanted annually, and larger tubers are transplanted once every 2 to 3 years.

Propagation methods

a)      Propagation by seeds

Seeds material is collected in September, which is carried out immediately after sowing. When planted for the winter, the seeds will be naturally hardened.

During sowing, the seedlings are eliminated, and the seeds are planted in fertile soil. Then the planting site is moistened and covered with straw or spruce branches. After sometimes, the seeds will root.

b)      Propagation by cuttings

Cuttings are carried out in the summer. They need to be 10-15 cm in size, which can be used as planting material. The lower sheets must be removed, the top cut off, the tips treated with a root-forming agent, and planted in a substrate made from peat and sand.

Next, the grown shoots should be watered and the container wrapped in plastic wrap. Further care consists of airing and maintaining the normal humidity of the substrate. Within some period, the cuttings will start to produce roots.

Diseases and pests

Chollipo Euonymus is disease resistant, but it is often sick because it is not correctly cared for. The tips of the leaves can dry and curl, and their color turns pale.

This means there is too much light. In the same way, the leaves can wholly or partially fall off, and this happens during a warm winter in a hot room with low humidity.

Sometimes, the growth can greatly slow down and the lower foliage flees around, which can be overflow. Chollipo Euonymus can also experience a frequent reaction to unsuitable detention conditions, which is the dropping of foliage.

Therefore, the plant should be tried not to disturb and provide him with the most suitable needs. A scale insect, aphid, whitefly, mealybug, or spider mite can settle on the plant. When pests appear, the bush must be treated with a chemical agent for the appropriate purpose.

Conclusion

Chollipo Euonymus comes with glossy oval leaves that are highly attractive and continue dark green during the winter. It performs well in full shade and full sun. It is adaptable to moist locations and dry and should do well under average home conditions. It benefits well if it is planted in a sheltered area.
