Care tips for Hoya Krinkle 8

1.     Lighting

The plant loves bright light and tolerates the sun’s direct rays well, but on the hottest summer days, it is better to shade the flower pot. Eastern and western window sills are best suited for growing.

On the northern windows and in winter, the Hoya Krinkle 8 does not have enough lighting, so installing backlighting with phytolamps. They are placed at 50–60 cm from the pot and artificially extend the daylight hours to 8–10 hours.

2.     Temperature

The optimum temperature in spring and summer is 17–25 degrees. With the onset of autumn, the temperature is gradually lowered. In winter, the plant is kept at a temperature of 16 degrees.

Hoya Krinkle 8 resist lower temperatures and can grow well without the dormant period less actively. The plant is taken out to a garden in summer and spring. But it is protected from rain. The room with the plant is ventilated all year round, as the plant loves fresh air very much.

3.     Watering

Hoya Krinkle 8 prefers infrequent but plentiful watering. Such procedures are possible as long as the size of the flower allows it. In this case, mineral nutrients are washed out of the substrate.

This loss must be compensated by subsequent top dressing. During the dormant period, 1 monthly watering is enough for the plant in winter.

If the air is dry, the shoots can be sprayed with warm water. At the beginning of flowering in the spring, Hoya Krinkle 8 is watered 2-3 times a month as the topsoil dries.

4.     Fertilizer

From the beginning of spring to the end of summer, the plant is fed once every three weeks with special mineral fertilizers, bred according to the instructions. With the advent of autumn and until the end of winter, fertilizing is stopped as it can harm the plant.

5.     Air humidity

Hoya Krinkle 8 is a tropical plant, so additional moisture in systematic irrigation will benefit it. This should be done with warm water, avoiding splashing on the inflorescences.

6.     Top dressing

Hoya Krinkle 8 is a slow-growing plant. During the season, two top dressings with a mineral complex of the full composition of NPK with a low nitrogen content are enough. Its excess provokes the appearance of soft, loose leaves and long, naked stems.

The proportion of potassium and phosphorus can start from 17%. If you plan to purchase ready-made dressings, you should pay attention to fertilizers for epiphytic plants.

7.     Transplant

Hoya Krinkle 8 is transplanted after its roots have completely covered the earthen ball. The young samples are transplanted yearly, adults – 1 time in 3-4 years.

The pot is taken no more than 5 cm more than the previous one. The flowerpot must be stable well suited from ceramic and clay material. The substrate can be purchased at the store or prepared independently. For this, leafy soil, humus, sand, and peat are mixed in the same ratio.

The process consists of several steps: A drainage layer and a little soil are poured at the bottom of the pot. The plant is carefully removed, the roots are lightly shaken off and washed under warm water.

Then Hoya Krinkle 8 is examined; they are cut off in the presence of rotten roots. After the tree is set in the middle of the flowerpot, it is sprinkled with earth.

Propagation methods

i. Propagation by cuttings

Cut the apical cuttings during pruning 10 cm and then treat with Kornevin. Plant in a container with a peat-sand mixture and cover with foil or glass. Put in a warm place, periodically ventilate, and moisten. Rooting occurs within a month, after which the plant is transplanted to a permanent location.

ii. Propagation by seeds

In this method, the seeds are bought at a flower shop. Then they are soaked in phytohormone for a whole day. Then they are sown in a sand-peat mixture. Keep in a bright room at a high temperature. When they reach 2-3 cm, they will keep them in separate pots with a diameter of 9 cm.

iii. Propagation by leaves

Several leaves with an axillary bud are separated from the stem. Dip for 10 minutes in a solution of Kornevin or Heteroauxin. They are planted in a mixture of peat and sand, mixed in equal amounts.

Pour over with warm water, cover with a film. The mini-greenhouse is ventilated every day moistened as the substrate dries. After about two weeks, the leaves will release the first roots, but they can only be planted after the stems appear.

Diseases and Pests

Like many plants, Hoya Krinkle 8 is attacked by whiteflies, scale insects, and mealybugs. Likewise, in the fight against them, various kinds of acaricides are used.

The most dangerous pests for vines are thrips and scale insects. The plant is pre-sprayed, after which special preparations are applied strictly following the instructions.

Fungi diseases also attack the plant. These diseases are controlled by treating leaf plates with laundry soap and copper sulfate.

When the roots rot, the vine is thrown out of the pot, and the earthen ball is washed off with warm water. Then all affected areas are removed, dried, treated with special preparations, and planted in a new substrate.
