Philodendron Tripartitum care tips

1.       Lighting

For the Philodendron Tripartitum to be lush and beautiful, you should choose the right place for it. Direct sunlight on the plant should be avoided.

Variegated forms of the plant need more light than monochrome ones. During the winter season, you need to create artificial light by installing photo lights in the room.

2.       Watering

Philodendron Tripartitum needs to be watered regularly, especially in spring and summer. The plant is watered as the top layer of the earth dries up.

The watering frequency depends on the air temperature in the room where the plant is located. Excess water in the pan should not remain. It is poured out an hour after watering.

In winter, water the plant should be very careful. At low temperatures] in the room, watering is reduced. Due to excessive watering, the Philodendron Tripartitum will get sick, and its leaves will turn yellow. Water it with soft water. The plant should not have lime impurities.

3.       Temperature

Philodendron Tripartitum belongs to the heat-loving plants. Typically, it adapts well to summer heat if a room maintains the optimal humidity. The plant does not require special temperature conditions.

It will feel most comfortable at a temperature of 18-27 °C. Temperatures above 27 °C in summer are undesirable. So that the Philodendron Tripartitum does not overheat, its leaves are washed and sprayed with soggy water. The plant doesn’t withstand drafts, therefore, it is go not to take it in the street.

4.       Air humidity

Under natural conditions, Philodendron Tripartitum grows in the tropics, so it needs high humidity. The plant need to be sprayed regularly, particularly in the heating period.

If the room has dry air, the leaves of the plant will become small. Young specimens will love the shower. To increase the humidity, you can dampen the stick using the coconut fibers, which serves as a support for the Philodendron.

Don’t forget to wipe the leaves of the plant with a soggy cloth. When spraying you can use warm or soft water.

5.       Fertilizer

Philodendron Tripartitum prefers animal excrement, insect waste, rotted tree leaves, and rainwater in their natural habitat. Unfortunately, in-room conditions, this cannot be provided to him. During demanding growth, the plat won’t refuse top dressing.

Fertilizer offer it with some nutrients. Similarly, they’re purchased in in September and March. Also, you can feed the plant in different months, but less often. Once a month will be enough if the plant is in a warm room.

6.       Top dressing

For top dressing, you can use the complex mineral fertilizers. Also, fertilizers for decorative and deciduous plants are suitable. For Philodendron Tripartitum to stretch in height, fertilizers with a high nitrogen content are used. If the plant must be compact, it is limited in feeding with nitrogen.

7.       Transplant

The Philodendron Tripartitum is transplanted like other plants. In the same way, young specimens need to be transplanted yearly, and adults every 2-3 years.

A close pot serves as a signal for transplantation. Each time it should be a little more spacious than the previous one. A cramped pot will make the Philodendron wither.

Pretty mature plants can be rolled over and replaced with topsoil. A tropical plant loves nutritious, porous, light, breathable, and slightly acidic soil. When growing this plant, use the earthy orchid substrate, including sphagnum moss, charcoal, bark, and peat.

Propagation methods

i.            Propagation by cuttings

The material for cuttings is apical or lateral shoots with 2-3 full-fledged leaves. Parts of the stem with aerial roots take root much faster. The cuttings are placed in a wet mixture of sand and peat. They are kept in high humidity and high temperature conditions until they are fully rooted.

ii.            Propagation by air layers

Propagation by air layers is suitable for Philodendron Tripartitum. This method is very simple and is considered the most effective. A flowerpot is filled with soil ideal for the plant. Then a stem is selected, preferably with aerial roots and rooted in an additional pot.

The base of the stem should remain on the mother bush. Likewise, the middle should be buried in the substrate, and the tip should be left on the soil’s surface. The stem can be pinned to the soil with a staple for reliability.

iii.            Propagation by seeds

Philodendron Tripartitum is propagated by seed.  Similarly, they are planted in peat-sandy soil after soaking in water for 12 hours. The seeds are germinated in greenhouse conditions for successful germination: at high temperature and under glass.

The seeds are sprayed from a fine spray gun every day, and the condensate is removed from the glass. Fresh seeds can germinate within a week after sowing.

Diseases and pests

Of the diseases, Philodendron Tripartitum is prone to root rot. It occurs due to fluid stagnation and regular overflows. To save the plant, an unscheduled transplant is performed.

In this case, it is necessary to trim all damaged roots and treat the cut points with a fungicide and sprinkle them with crushed activated carbon. Throw away the old substrate.

If the plant is properly cared for, insect pests will not be afraid. Philodendron Tripartitum is threatened with improper care by scale insects, thrips, and spider mites. All the maintenance and proper care rules are followed to combat these pests, and the pests are subjected to pesticides.

Conclusion

When purchasing Philodendron Tripartitum, keep in mind it makes the homestead beautiful. You do not put it in direct sunlight to maintain this, and the optimum temperature should be considered. Also, protect it from low temperatures drafts, and maintain high humidity.
