Stalwart Rose Care Tips

1.       Lighting

Stalwart rose is fond of abundant sunlight, so it must be placed on a well-lit windowsill. Periodically turn the pot so that the plant forms even and regular.

In winter, it is imperative to illuminate the Stalwart rose with unique fit lamps; otherwise, the flower may wither. This plant needs some hours of direct light not to stretch the shoots.

2.       Watering

You need to soak the ground well because the root system of the Stalwart rose is robust and grows deep into the ground. The plant is watered once a week to ensure rapid establishment.

For old plants, abundant watering once every two weeks is sufficient. In this case, weather conditions must be taken into account. The best option for watering Stalwart Rose is rainwater. Water from a well or water supply must be avoided.

Watering is done in the evening or cloudy weather. The exception is drip irrigation, in which water is slowly absorbed into the ground.

From the third decade of July, the number of irrigations is reduced to stop the active growth of green mass on the plants. Young shoots will not have time to throw off their leaves by autumn and freeze in winter.

3.       Temperature

In summer, Stalwart rose needs 27 °C, and in winter, it should be about 14 °C. It should be remembered that Stalwart rose does not like cold drafts. Therefore, leave the plant away from the open transom when ventilating the room. In general, the flower is very loyal to ventilation.

4.       Humidity

The Stalwart rose should be periodically sprayed with water from a spray bottle, especially if the room is ventilated infrequently. In addition, this plant loves a unique bath. Pour a warm water in a basin and put the flower pot and allow the foliage and roots be saturated with the moisture.

After ten minutes, the water is supposed to be drained a little so that the outside stems and roots remain in the water. So leave for another 20 minutes. The procedure of bathing need to be carried out after (autumn) and before flowering (spring).

5.       Top dressing

Care tips for Stalwart rose also include top dressing. You will need 3-4 top dressings containing phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, and other necessary elements for lush flowering.

In summer, nitrogen-containing substances should not be applied not to provoke greenery’s active growth. For summer dressings, solutions for 10 liters of water are suitable.

A mixture of superphosphate and potassium sulfate, 2 cups of wood ash, 500 ml of bird droppings, 10 g of nitrophoska, 16 g of potassium monophosphate, and 15 g of superphosphate is essential.

Top dressing is carried out after rain or heavy watering not to burn the roots in the upper part. If Stalwart rose is in bloom, fertilizing is not recommended. After watering and fertilizing, it is necessary to loosen the soil under the Stalwart rose bushes to improve access to oxygen to the roots.

6.       Pruning

After a thorough pruning in the spring, Stalwart rose bushes require little or no removal of branches. But the plant gradually loses its chic appearance and shape if it is covered with dried inflorescences and young shoots.

Caring for Stalwart roses in the summer requires the removal of dried flowers along with the pedicel and sanitary pruning of dried and diseased branches.

Also, it requires cutting young shoots growing from the root and shortening half-thick young branches to stimulate the plant’s branching. To not miss the right moment of pruning, shrubs are systematically inspected, and a schedule is made for clearing excess branches.

7.       Transplant

Often transplanting Stalwart rose is carried out. There are two signs that will tell you there is a need for a transplant. When the roots are exposed, the Stalwart Rose begins to wither.

Stalwart Rose is transplanted into a slightly larger pot than the previous one, carefully transferring it along with a clod of earth. Then drainage is a must.

Propagation methods

         i.            Propagation by cuttings

With the help of cuttings, the Stalwart rose is propagated in spring or autumn. To do this, shoots are cut from the plant and the length of which should be about 15 centimeters.

You can use the cuttings left after pruning the Stalwart Rose for rooting. Places of cuts need to be treated with coal powder and place the cuttings in a mixture of sand, perlite, and charcoal.

A container with planted cuttings should be placed in a well-lit room with a stable temperature regime. So that the cuttings do not rot, watering should be moderate.

After about a month, the shoots will give roots, and they can be transplanted into a mixture with equal proportions of peat soil, sod, sand, and humus.

Diseases and pests

Stalwart rose can be attacked by diseases, which becomes a problem to this plant. This include:

  • Spots on the plant leaves that appear from excess sunlight, from using cold water for irrigation, or from overfeeding the flower with mineral fertilizers
  • The leaves curl, turn pale, and steadily dry out from too low water temperatures and air for irrigation, and excessive sunlight
  • Growth inhibition and bleaching of green color in Stalwart rose can happen due to lack of nitrogen fertilizer in the soil. It is enough to feed the plant with urea (1 g per 1 liter of water).
  • Leaves can fall off both from excess water in the soil and its lack, or high temperature and dry air in the room with a lack of watering

Also, the Stalwart rose can be attacked by pests like leafworm, thrips, leafhopper, and spider mites. During this period, you need to carefully examine the green foliage so as not to miss the moment of the appearance of pests.

To solve this problem, the plant is treated with insecticides twice at an interval of 14 days.

Conclusion

Stalwart rose is known for making the home look beautiful and because of its attractive flowers. If the care tips are observed, you will have a healthy and robust plant that will be attractive.
