The main characteristics of the Pink Syngonium

Growth & Size

These plants are vining plants which means that they can spread their leaves in whatever width and height they want. The Syngonium Pink can be kept in baskets to show its trailing leaves. If you want to tame its spread, you can always prune this plant from time to time.

They have a fast growth rate. When these plants mature, they reach a maximum height of four to seven feet and a width of almost 3 feet.

Leaves

Initially, the plant has heart-shaped leaves, but as the plant matures, the leaves turn their shape to an arrowhead. They come in many colors, including green, white, cream and pink. They also have multi-colored leaves, a mixture of all the shades.

Flower

Pink Syngonium is popular for its pink color and not its flowers. Although they are flowering plants, since they are mainly kept indoors, they rarely grow flowers. They don’t often flower, even after giving them adequate care.

Diseases

The most common disease which affects the plant is root rot which generally happens when the plant is over-watered, making the soil soggy. To overcome this disease, it is recommended to keep the soil well-drained.

How to take care of your Pink Syngonium

Water

Perhaps the most important aspect of the growth of any plant is to give them the correct quantities of water. The same rule applies to the Pink Syngonium. The plant doesn’t require high levels of watering to survive.

To keep the plant healthy, it should be watered once a week throughout every season except winters.

The specialty of these plants is to survive in drought conditions for a few days. However, when left un-watered for a long period, the leaves can become dry and pale.

Soil

The Syngonium plant grows well in soil that has acidic pH levels. The soil mustn’t be waterlogged as the plant can’t grow in such conditions.

Another important requirement is this: soil that drains well. To ensure well-draining soil, you can make holes in the pot to facilitate drainage.

Lighting

The light requirements for Pink Syngonium are very important as light keeps the plant’s color intact. They optimally grow when exposed to bright light conditions.

If you’re growing this plant indoors, place it near a large window covered by a thin curtain that allows sunlight inside. This should adequately meet your Syngonium Pink’s lighting requirements.

You should be mindful of the fact that keeping the plant in direct sunlight can damage the beautiful leaves of Pink Syngonium as they can lose their color.

The amount of light may vary according to the variety being grown. If a dark green color Syngonium plant is being grown, then it can survive under low levels of light.

People usually like this plant for its pink color, for that it needs to be placed in bright light.

Temperature

To grow a healthy plant, you should give it the right amount of temperature for growth. The Pink Syngonium grows healthy at room temperature (17°C–22°C).

It is recommended by specialists to keep the plant in sunlight during summers to improve the beautiful colors of their leaves.

If the temperature of the plants drops below the given temperature, then the plant will grow slowly. On the other hand, when given extreme temperatures, the plant can lose moisture and wilt. Therefore, adjusting the temperature is very crucial.

Humidity

To grow Pink Syngoniums, it is required that it experiences high levels of humidity which is approximately (30-60%). Without humility, it is quite difficult to grow a healthy Syngonium plant.

To grow the plants indoors, it is suggested to use a humidifier which can create an ideal environment for the growth of the plant.

Fertilizers

Although these plants don’t require fertilizers, you may still use them to improve your plant’s growth.

You should give the plants a water-based fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks. However, it is recommended that during November till February, as the climate is cold, the plant should not be given fertilizers as they are in a latent phase.

Pruning

Occasional pruning can prove to be really beneficial for your Pink Syngonium as it is a vining plant.

It is recommended that the plant is pruned, especially during springtime, as it is when the Syngonium Pink grows the most. The vines need to be pruned to keep the plant in shape and maintained.
