Plant it in the right place

A tree should be planted where it’s meant to be; you can’t plant a tree anywhere you like. Find a spot with enough sunlight throughout the day.

Also, you should pick a space where the tree can have a full-grown canopy. If you’re planning to get a tall tree, make sure you don’t have any overhead or underground power lines.

And make sure you don’t plant it too deeply. Doing so might cause your tree not to grow full and lead to yellow, undersized, or even fewer leaves.

Water it properly

Watering your plant or tree isn’t the simplest of tasks, but you need to do so and do it appropriately. Usually, your trees will get enough water from the rain.

But if it hasn’t rained for a long time, you might want to see if your tree needs a drink. Depending on the tree, a fully grown tree needs about 10 gallons of water for each inch of the tree’s diameter. New trees need up to 2 to 4 gallons per inch of its trunk diameter during their initial growing season.

Mulch

Mulching your tree is essential to keep it healthy. Mulch in the roots insulates them and helps prevent dry soil. You might want to remove the grass underneath and spread about two to four inches of mulch. But you also need to make sure you don’t cover the trunk’s base.

Fertilize

In the forest, trees grow exponentially with the natural plant materials that fertilize the tree. But your backyard might not have these natural plant materials that act as nutrients to the soil.

We generally remove all the leaves and grass clippings that might work as fertilizers to the ground. In the absence of natural fertilizers, it might be better to use slow-release fertilizers, which release nutrients slowly in the soil. Also, it’s helpful to test the soil regularly to check fertility.

Prune

Regularly trimming the tree helps prevent deadwood from holding the tree back. Proper pruning is crucial for the adequate growth of any tree.

However, make sure you do it mainly when the tree doesn’t have any dormant leaves. Then when the tree is all green in summer, you might want to only focus on tidying it up.

Following all the tips to take care of your tree,  we hope you have the best tree in the neighborhood. But importantly, get this message moving. It’s not just about one person taking care of trees; it’s everyone taking care of their trees that makes the earth green and healthy.
